In a tragic accident out of Oxon Hill, five people lost their lives when a Mercedes rear-ended an Acura at a traffic signal. According to one report by the New York Daily News, it is one of the worst accidents that the area has seen. In fact, several emergency responders on the scene that day have sought counseling as a result of what they saw.

Evidently, it was a rainy evening in Oxon Hill when the accident occurred. The Mercedes slammed into the back of an Acura that was waiting at a red light. All four of the passengers inside the Acura were killed. One of the two passengers inside the Mercedes was also killed. Both of the drivers, however, survived.

Witnesses claimed that the accident was “indescribable,” and people from up to two blocks away reported hearing the collision. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the driver of the Mercedes and the one surviving passenger crawling out of the burning car on their elbows.

Earlier this week in Olney, a head-on collision caused one man’s death and caused another woman to be seriously injured. According to a report by one local news source, the fatal accident occurred just after 5:30 on a Monday morning near the intersection of Route 108 and Volunteer Drive.

Evidently, a 25-year-old man from Mount Jackson was driving a pick-up truck westbound on Route 108 when it drifted off the road for an unknown reason. When the driver of the truck noticed that he had drifted out of his lane, he overcorrected and crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic.

As the pick-up truck drifted into oncoming traffic, it struck an SUV driven by a 51-year-old woman. The woman was taken to the hospital by emergency crews, but she was unable to overcome her injuries and died a short time after she was admitted to the hospital. The driver of the pick-up truck was also taken to the hospital, although with non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier this week in Severn, Maryland, a two-car accident claimed one man’s life and sent two others to the hospital with serious injuries. According to a report by WUSA 9, the accident occurred shortly before 3:30 in the afternoon on Ridge Road near Galetown Drive.

Evidently, a 73-year-old driver was attempting to negotiate a sharp right-hand turn but drifted out of her lane and entered the lane of oncoming traffic. At this point, the woman’s car collided with a Fredericksburg, Virginia man’s car, causing a serious accident.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries that he later succumbed to. The 73-year-old woman and her passenger were both taken to the hospital as well with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier this week in Camp Springs, a single-car accident resulted in the death of one woman after the car she was riding in took the ramp too quickly and ran off the road. According to a report by WUSA9, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident after crashing the car, but he was soon after apprehended by police in the woods nearby.

Evidently, the accident occurred just before three in the morning on the ramp from southbound Route 5 to Allentown Road, in Camp Springs. The driver of a Dodge Charger was traveling too fast and lost control as he entered the on-ramp. He eventually crashed into a light support pole, which caused the car to catch on fire.

The driver of the car got out immediately and started to run through the nearby woods, presumably to evade the police. However, they caught up with him a few minutes later not too far from the scene of the accident.

Last week in Scaggsville, a major accident shut down portions of the highway for several hours and injured eight people. According to a report by one local news source, the accident occurred around 4:45 in the afternoon on Route 29 south, just north of Johns Hopkins Road.

Evidently, the driver of a Honda SUV was driving erratically and crashed into two other vehicles while driving north on Route 29. After crashing into the other vehicles, the SUV ended up airborne and crossed into the southbound lanes, where it landed on a Dodge truck. The SUV continued its path of destruction, eventually colliding with another truck before ultimately coming to a rest in the southbound lanes.

Thankfully, no one was killed. However, a total of eight people were injured in the accident. Four others were involved but escaped without injury. Of those injured, several were ejected when one of the vehicles rolled over, and several others were trapped inside their vehicles until emergency crews arrived and were able to extricate them.

In a tragic accident that occurred earlier this month in Riverdale, a young mother was killed and her three-year-old daughter injured when they were hit as they were crossing the street. According to a report by WUSA9, the accident occurred on the 5800 block of Riverdale Road on a Monday afternoon.

Evidently, the woman and her daughter were crossing the street at a crosswalk when the accident occurred. Witnesses to the accident state that the two were attempting to cross a three-lane road, and drivers in two of the three lanes stopped to let them pass. However, a driver in the third lane did not stop or slow down and hit the mother and child.

Witnesses also told police that the driver was either texting or talking on the phone at the time of the accident. Police are conducting a full investigation into the accident and have not charged the driver as of yet. The driver did remain on the scene after the accident.

Earlier this week in Montgomery County, a fatal single-vehicle accident claimed the life of one teen and injured two others. According to a report by CBS DC, the accident occurred in Olney, near Hines Road and Macduff Avenue.

While police are still piecing together the facts from the accident, they believe that around one in the morning a Chrysler 200 convertible was heading east on Hines Road when it suddenly left the roadway and struck a tree before reaching Macduff Avenue. After crashing through the tree, the car continued across Macduff Avenue, crashing into a street light pole and a telephone box before rolling over and finally coming to a rest.

The car was being driven by a 17-year-old and had two other teens as passengers. The teen in the back seat of the Chrysler was ejected during the accident and was taken into the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, shortly after being admitted to the hospital, the young boy succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier this week on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, an accident injured two people, sending one to the hospital in serious condition. According to a report by CBS Baltimore, the accident occurred around 11 a.m on the westbound span of the bridge, which was open to two-way traffic at the time.

Evidently, two cars collided head-on as they passed each other on the bridge. It is not clear exactly how the accident occurred, although the bridge is fairly narrow, and it doesn’t take much imagination to picture two cars colliding head-on. Two motorists were injured in the accident, and one of them was flown to the hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic was backed up five miles in either direction as emergency workers cleared the scene.

Earlier last month in Landover Hills, an apparent car-jacking ended in the alleged thief crashing the stolen vehicle into the drive-thru of a McDonald’s restaurant. According to a report by ABC 7, a young man approached the driver of an SUV asking for a ride. When he was told no, the young man implied that he had a weapon, and the SUV’s driver got out of the car and fled.

The young man then got inside the car and drove away. A few blocks away he ran into two cars, one of which began to follow the SUV. Not long after, the SUV crashed head-on into the drive-thru of a McDonald’s restaurant.

After the accident, the driver, apparently flustered, got out of the car and tried to flee the scene. However, police caught up with him, and he admitted to stealing the car and driving it into the restaurant.

Earlier this week in Washington DC, a Maryland school teacher lost her life when she was sideswiped by a police cadet making an improper turn out of an emergency crossover. According to a report by NBC Washington, the accident occurred on Friday morning on the Capital Beltway, near the Route 50 interchange.

Evidently, the 18-year-old cadet was driving an unmarked police SUV without the lights or sirens activated when he decided to use the emergency crossover from the Inner Loop to the Outer Loop. However, as he exited the crossover, he sideswiped a Lincoln, sending it into a nearby wall. The SUV driven by the officer then spun into a Subaru Outback.

The driver of the Lincoln, a 59-year-old Maryland school teacher, was taken to Prince George’s Hospital Center, where she was later pronounced dead. She left behind five children and four grandchildren. The driver of the Subaru was not injured in the collision.
