Earlier this week in Silver Spring, a four-car accident injured 13 people, sending several to the hospital. According to a report by one local news source, the accident took place near the 16900 block of Norwood Road, near the intersection with Excalibur Lane, around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Evidently, a Toyota Corolla was stopped on Norwood Road, waiting to make a left turn, when a Mitsubishi approached from the rear and slammed into the Toyota. The force of the impact sent the Toyota into oncoming traffic. Once in the lane of oncoming traffic, the Toyota crashed head-on into a Chevy Tahoe. This collision sent the Tahoe into a Dodge minivan and then off the roadway.

Paramedics were on the scene and treated the drivers and passengers in the cars and the SUV. They were able to be treated on the scene, and their minor injuries did not result in hospitalization. However, the driver and passengers of the minivan all sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Police explained to reporters that all people involved were properly restrained in either seat belts or car seats and credit the lack of fatalities to this fact.

Earlier this week in Springettsbury Township, Pennsylvania, a chain-reaction accident took the life of one Maryland man and injured several others. According to one local news report, the accident occurred around 11:45 in the morning.

Evidently, there was a line of three cars waiting to get off a highway exit ramp when a vehicle approaching from the rear failed to stop or slow down. That vehicle crashed into the rear-most car in the line, which sent it into the cars in front of it. In all, the accident involved four vehicles.

The driver of the first vehicle to be rear-ended was an 86-year-old man from Parkton, Maryland. He was taken to the nearest hospital but was shortly after pronounced dead. His wife and two others involved in the accident were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The extent of their injuries is not currently known.

Earlier this week in St. Mary’s County, a tragic early-morning accident took the life of one motorist and injured another near the intersection of Route 5 and Route 6. According to a report by one local news source, the accident occurred at around eight in the morning, involved two vehicles, and occurred when one ran a red light and drove into the path of the other.

Evidently, a Toyota Avalon was heading eastbound on Route 6 when it failed to stop for a red light. At the same time, a Volvo was heading southbound on Route 5. As the Toyota entered the intersection through the red light, the Volvo collided with the driver’s side door of the Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Volvo sustained some injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by ambulance. There was also a minor child in the Volvo who is expected to be fine.

Earlier this week in Upper Marlboro, a tragic accident claimed the life of a well-loved woman and fixture of the neighborhood. According to a report by one local news source, the woman was walking along Route 210/Indian Head Highway near Berry Road when she was hit by a passing truck.

Evidently, the accident occurred around 5:30 in the morning, when it was still dark outside. Police told reporters that the driver of the truck stayed at the scene of the accident, and that the woman was not in a crosswalk when she was struck and killed.

One neighbor told reporters that the specific section of Route 210 where the woman was hit is a very busy, fast, and dangerous area with traffic constantly zooming by. It is not clear who is at fault in the accident. However, it does not seem that the driver of the truck was cited for any violation.

Earlier this week in Deer Park, a woman was arrested after she crashed into a car while driving drunk. According to a report by one local news source, a couple was driving along State Road 219 when another driver pulled in front of them, cutting them off.

Due to the driver cutting off the couple, the two cars collided in a minor collision. However, rather than stop and ensure that everyone was all right, the woman kept on driving. The couple followed her for several miles, honking their horn and flashing their lights, trying to get her to stop. They were also able to get the car’s license plate number and call police.

When police finally tracked the woman down, she was at home and admitted to driving while she was drunk and also apologized for hitting the people. A blood test was given to the woman, and the results indicated that her blood-alcohol content was .33, which is one-third of her blood. She was immediately arrested and charged with driving under the influence and also with fleeing the scene of an accident.

In a tragic accident out of Oxon Hill, five people lost their lives when a Mercedes rear-ended an Acura at a traffic signal. According to one report by the New York Daily News, it is one of the worst accidents that the area has seen. In fact, several emergency responders on the scene that day have sought counseling as a result of what they saw.

Evidently, it was a rainy evening in Oxon Hill when the accident occurred. The Mercedes slammed into the back of an Acura that was waiting at a red light. All four of the passengers inside the Acura were killed. One of the two passengers inside the Mercedes was also killed. Both of the drivers, however, survived.

Witnesses claimed that the accident was “indescribable,” and people from up to two blocks away reported hearing the collision. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the driver of the Mercedes and the one surviving passenger crawling out of the burning car on their elbows.

Earlier this week in Olney, a head-on collision caused one man’s death and caused another woman to be seriously injured. According to a report by one local news source, the fatal accident occurred just after 5:30 on a Monday morning near the intersection of Route 108 and Volunteer Drive.

Evidently, a 25-year-old man from Mount Jackson was driving a pick-up truck westbound on Route 108 when it drifted off the road for an unknown reason. When the driver of the truck noticed that he had drifted out of his lane, he overcorrected and crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic.

As the pick-up truck drifted into oncoming traffic, it struck an SUV driven by a 51-year-old woman. The woman was taken to the hospital by emergency crews, but she was unable to overcome her injuries and died a short time after she was admitted to the hospital. The driver of the pick-up truck was also taken to the hospital, although with non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier this week in Severn, Maryland, a two-car accident claimed one man’s life and sent two others to the hospital with serious injuries. According to a report by WUSA 9, the accident occurred shortly before 3:30 in the afternoon on Ridge Road near Galetown Drive.

Evidently, a 73-year-old driver was attempting to negotiate a sharp right-hand turn but drifted out of her lane and entered the lane of oncoming traffic. At this point, the woman’s car collided with a Fredericksburg, Virginia man’s car, causing a serious accident.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries that he later succumbed to. The 73-year-old woman and her passenger were both taken to the hospital as well with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier this week in Camp Springs, a single-car accident resulted in the death of one woman after the car she was riding in took the ramp too quickly and ran off the road. According to a report by WUSA9, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident after crashing the car, but he was soon after apprehended by police in the woods nearby.

Evidently, the accident occurred just before three in the morning on the ramp from southbound Route 5 to Allentown Road, in Camp Springs. The driver of a Dodge Charger was traveling too fast and lost control as he entered the on-ramp. He eventually crashed into a light support pole, which caused the car to catch on fire.

The driver of the car got out immediately and started to run through the nearby woods, presumably to evade the police. However, they caught up with him a few minutes later not too far from the scene of the accident.

Last week in Scaggsville, a major accident shut down portions of the highway for several hours and injured eight people. According to a report by one local news source, the accident occurred around 4:45 in the afternoon on Route 29 south, just north of Johns Hopkins Road.

Evidently, the driver of a Honda SUV was driving erratically and crashed into two other vehicles while driving north on Route 29. After crashing into the other vehicles, the SUV ended up airborne and crossed into the southbound lanes, where it landed on a Dodge truck. The SUV continued its path of destruction, eventually colliding with another truck before ultimately coming to a rest in the southbound lanes.

Thankfully, no one was killed. However, a total of eight people were injured in the accident. Four others were involved but escaped without injury. Of those injured, several were ejected when one of the vehicles rolled over, and several others were trapped inside their vehicles until emergency crews arrived and were able to extricate them.
