McDonald’s Restaurant Permanently Closes After Driver Crashes Through the Drive Through

Earlier last month in Landover Hills, an apparent car-jacking ended in the alleged thief crashing the stolen vehicle into the drive-thru of a McDonald’s restaurant. According to a report by ABC 7, a young man approached the driver of an SUV asking for a ride. When he was told no, the young man implied that he had a weapon, and the SUV’s driver got out of the car and fled.

The young man then got inside the car and drove away. A few blocks away he ran into two cars, one of which began to follow the SUV. Not long after, the SUV crashed head-on into the drive-thru of a McDonald’s restaurant.

After the accident, the driver, apparently flustered, got out of the car and tried to flee the scene. However, police caught up with him, and he admitted to stealing the car and driving it into the restaurant.

Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt in the accident. The young man who stole the car was treated for minor injuries, however. The driver now faces charges of armed car-jacking as well as charges relating to the accident. Police believe that the man may suffer from mental illness.

Maryland Accidents

Not all “accidents” are truly accidents. Sometimes accidents involve the intentional conduct of one party. That seems to be the case here, where, although the young man may not have intended to crash the car into a McDonald’s, he did intend to steal it and take it for a joy-ride. That doesn’t mean that the case is strictly one for the criminal courts.

Whether an accident or not, when someone’s negligent or intentional conduct causes harm to another, the victim of that conduct is entitled to compensation from the offender.

Recovering in Maryland Auto Accidents

The financial recovery process after an auto accident can be lengthy and confusing. It is therefore best to retain the services of an experienced Maryland personal injury attorney to help you out along the way.

In many cases the other party to the accident will fight your claim that they were completely at fault. If the other party is successful, it may destroy your claim. It is best to be as prepared as possible before beginning the process, to decrease any surprises along the way.
