Maryland Car Accident Attorney Blog
Earlier this week in Montgomery County, a fatal single-vehicle accident claimed the life of one teen and injured two others. According to a report by CBS DC, the accident occurred in Olney, near Hines Road and Macduff Avenue.
While police are still piecing together the facts from the accident, they believe that around one in the morning a Chrysler 200 convertible was heading east on Hines Road when it suddenly left the roadway and struck a tree before reaching Macduff Avenue. After crashing through the tree, the car continued across Macduff Avenue, crashing into a street light pole and a telephone box before rolling over and finally coming to a rest.
The car was being driven by a 17-year-old and had two other teens as passengers. The teen in the back seat of the Chrysler was ejected during the accident and was taken into the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, shortly after being admitted to the hospital, the young boy succumbed to his injuries.
The driver and the other passenger, who was also 17 years old, were both taken to the hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries. Police are in the middle of an investigation that they hope will shed additional light on the cause of the fatal car accident.
Single-Vehicle Accidents
Not all accidents require two drivers, as the article above illustrates. Most single-vehicle accidents we see are the result of negligent behavior on the part of the driver. For example, speeding and drunk driving are two of the most common causes of single-vehicle accidents in Maryland. While a single-vehicle accident can be the fault of a defective tire or other mechanical malfunction, these are the exception to the general rule.
While the investigation has not yet been completed in the accident above, it is possible that both speeding and drunk driving could have played a role in the accident that claimed the teenager’s life. Whatever the case, the family of the accident victim deserves to have their questions answered.
